                                           kundo fish

The fish, which is dissimilar in colour and appearance to general fish, carries a religious importance with it. Lord Shiva, the presiding deity of Huma temple, is worshipped as Bimaleshwar Baba and the Kundo fish found in the river are a tourist’s delight. Legend has it that the fishes are an incarnation of God and one should never kill it.

These fish even carry special names and are revered as much as the deity. A special ritual is performed on the day of Kartik Purnima when the priests Sibananda Pujari, Sadananda Pujari and Rabindra Behera go to the river bank to conduct ‘ghat puja’ and invoke the fish in the name of Sunanaki, Gunanaki, Jamtalien and Aamatlien and feed them.

People coming to the temple spend some time on the river bank to see the fish. After the puja, devotees are allowed to feed the fish with ‘laddus’ and fish feed. Every year, tourists from across and outside the State flock to Dhama to have a glimpse of the rare fish.
